My mother’s rules apply to whatever I create. No matter what it IS it must be useful. Pretty is as pretty does had an all encompassing meaning as I was raised. Even modeling fashion was not just looking appropriate and covering the naked. It ‘s useful-ness was also to make the wearer feel pretty/confident in the fashion. Oh! A cake must not just look good taste good. It had to be good for you. Mommy’s pound cake could sustain a crowd of people for days… maybe serve with a glass of ice water.

Stay with me now, I am coming back.

It was only after seeing quilts hung on a museum wall that I was able to see them as simply (excuse me here) art. And during that experience I was struggling with memories of clutching quilts as we shook them out. Billowing them to float onto the bed. Crawling under quilts to smother laughs. Finding a lost sock that got caught in the bedding. Placing a quilt on the floor to lay the baby on. Baby would have no place to fall, kids knew to walk around edges of the quilt. And so everybody could enjoy the baby. Yes they were useful!

When I get an design idea it is as I create the object that I see how it is useful. Sometimes as I write the item descriptions I reveal their usefulness for others. And that is when I am aware that the items in my shop follow the rule. See, I’m back on pointe.

Napkin rings help organize serving preparations for hostessing. And pretty.

Pretty? Earrings in colors I am not seeing in the marketplace. I know somebody needs just that shade to complete their fashion ensemble. Looking pulled together as they say.

Meditation tealight holders that are useful reminders to take a time out. Gifts to encourage or compliment someone.

Bracelets, so much prettier than a string around one’s finger, to remind one of meaningful things.

My business card is also handmade by me. And designed by me. With a tear-off strip so the card will stand up and it can also be passed on. Just tear off the note (see the tiny music note) for yourself. My logo is a necklace I created consisting of lampwork chocolate beads by DragonBeads.Com with seed beads cups for empty wrappers.
